Dan Colligan

Assistant Principal Royal Oak Middle School

Dan became part of the Royal Oak Community in September 2016 as an assistant principal at Royal Oak Middle School (ROMS).

Dan graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in History and Secondary Education. Later, he completed a Masters of Arts in Economics from Eastern Michigan University. Dan received his School Administration certification from the Michigan Association of Secondary Principals Path to Leadership Program in 2014. He expects to complete his graduate certificate in restorative practices from the International Institute of Restorative Practices Graduate School in early 2021.

Dan started his teaching career working in the Upward Bound program at Wayne Memorial High School in 2003. From there, he moved on to Canton High School where he taught in the social studies department for 9 years and coached basketball. Dan’s first experience in school administration came in 2012, when he accepted a position as the Coordinator for Assessment Services at Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. In 2014, Dan became an assistant principal at Plymouth High School. When the opportunity arose to join Royal Oak Schools, he was pleased to come onboard as the Assistant Principal at ROMS.

Dan believes that fostering connections between students and school through the Middle Years Programme will set up Royal Oak students for the world they will be joining and leading. He looks forward to continuing the work to bring restorative practices to Royal Oak Middle School. Dan enjoys collaborating with students, staff, and families in the Royal Oak Community to help make our school more culturally responsive so that all students at ROMS know they are valued and supported.

In his down time, Dan enjoys being with family and friends, trying to increase his 3 point percentage when shooting from distance, and reading non-fiction. He looks forward to continuing to partner with Royal Oak families.
