Royal Oak Middle School Principal’s Welcome Letter
Ms. Kristin Meldrum, Principal
Hello Royal Oak Middle School Students and Families,
As I begin my fourth year as the proud principal of Royal Oak Middle School, I want to extend a warm welcome to both our returning families and those joining us for the first time. It continues to be an honor to serve this exceptional school community, and I hope you’re enjoying a well-deserved, restful summer with time to recharge and reconnect.
Since joining ROMS in 2022, I’ve had the incredible privilege of watching our students grow, our staff lead with care and creativity, and our community rally around a shared vision for excellence. Over these past few years, we’ve made meaningful strides together—implementing our cell phone-free initiative, expanding recess and opportunities for play, and deepening our commitment to creating a joyful, inclusive school experience for every student.
Royal Oak Middle School continues to shine as a Proud International Baccalaureate World School, offering a robust Middle Years Programme designed to develop curious, compassionate, and globally-minded learners. Our School Improvement Plan focuses on Social-Emotional Learning, Culturally Responsive Teaching, and Universal Design for Learning—all of which guide us in creating equitable and engaging learning environments.
We're proud to be a Professional Learning Community grounded in collaboration, with three dedicated counseling/administrative teams, a wide variety of student clubs, sports, and PTSA-sponsored events, and a staff that is deeply committed to nurturing the whole child. From differentiated instruction to responsive student support services, everything we do is centered around your child’s growth, learning, and well-being.
On a personal note, my family and I are proud members of the Royal Oak community. My husband, Jeff, and I continue to enjoy raising our son, J.J., who is now a busy, curious, and energetic almost 5 year-old. I know firsthand how deeply families care about the education and experiences of their children, and that care fuels my commitment to making ROMS a place where every student is known, valued, and inspired to succeed.
To our students—I can't wait to see you soon! Whether you’re starting sixth grade, getting ready for your final year in eighth, or somewhere in between, know that you are a vital part of what makes this school so special. Get ready for a year filled with learning, leadership, laughter, and Bulldog pride!
As always, my door remains open. I welcome your questions, ideas, and feedback, and I look forward to continuing our partnership throughout the upcoming school year. Communication about back-to-school events and important dates will be shared in the coming weeks.
Enjoy these final days of summer—and as always, Go Bulldogs!
Warmly,
Ms. Kristin Meldrum
